The image above is a recent Springer Spaniel portrait I was commissioned to do. The dog is called Freddie and the portrait was a gift for a returning customer.

Springer Spaniel Portrait – Unframed pastel portrait

A returning client recently contacted me to do another portrait for her of her Springer Spaniel called Freddie. It is the fourth dog portrait I have done for her in pastels over several years. The painting is to be a gift to her from her parents. They wanted her to be able to choose which photo for me to use and be involved in the whole process of her gift of a portrait of her dog. She sent some really lovely photos for me to work from of Freddie. Between us we narrowed it down to a few that would be lovely. She also wanted it to be in the same style as her previous portraits I had painted for her. We agreed on the final photograph to work from. I really did enjoy painting Freddie. Such a kind face and lovely eyes to capture in the painting. The client chose to have the painting unframed so she could frame it herself to match the other portraits. The following two images show different stages of Freddie’s Springer Spaniel portrait. Hopefully they give an idea of the typical process.

Pet Portraits as gifts

Having a pet portrait as a birthday gift is a wonderful idea. By buying a gift certificate from me the pet owner can be involved in the whole process. They can select the photo that they feel shows their pet’s personality best. They can even decide on what size of pet portrait to order to best suit where they plan to hang it.  The other option is for family and friends to obtain some lovely photos for me to work from. The finished pet portrait can then be wrapped up, all ready for the big day, possibly even framed and ready to hang.

As well as birthdays, pet paintings have been given as wedding gifts, anniversary gifts and of course Christmas! Christmas is approaching fast and Christmas commissions are already coming in. So if you would like to give a gift of a pet portrait this Christmas contact me and I will gladly help you choose which type of gift to give.
